The Lookout King
45.0375° S, 168.6487° E
The last to bid you farewell, the first to welcome you home
As you leave Queenstown and the road bends toward Glenorchy, there stands a conifer unlike any other—an ancient sentinel perched at Lookout Point. Towering and timeless, it watches over the town like a guardian of old, its roots gripping the land, its arms stretched wide in silent farewell.
Many simply pass it by. But if you pause—just for a moment—you'll feel it: that stillness, that deep presence, as if one of Tolkien’s Ents had stepped out of Middle-earth to dwell among us. The path ahead leads to the very mountains and valleys where The Lord of the Rings was brought to life, and this tree seems to mark the threshold between the known world and something older, wilder, and full of magic.
Don't just drive past. Stop. Stand beneath its great limbs. Let your journey begin not just with movement, but with awe.
Send your pictures in and show us you made it.
